Why We Won't Build You Another CRM

TL;DR

For business owners: what a CRM actually is, why chat tools keep trying to become one, and why LutinGénie won't turn follow-ups into a second customer database.

Who this is for: business owners — shops, gîtes, craftsmen, local services, online stores. Not an agency playbook. If you answer customers yourself (or with a small team), this is for you.

Someone leaves their email in your chat because they need a callback. Where should that person live afterward?

A lot of chat products answer: in us — we'll be your CRM too.

We think that's a bad deal for you.

Quick plain-language: what is a CRM?

CRM means Customer Relationship Management — basically the place you keep track of your customers: who they are, how to reach them, what happened last time, sometimes newsletters or sales follow-ups.

It might be Brevo, HubSpot, a simple tool your accountant recommended… or a notebook and a spreadsheet. Same job, different polish.

If you don't use one yet, that's fine. Many owners don't. The point of this article isn't "go buy a CRM." It's: your chat shouldn't quietly become a second one.

The mess that starts with good intentions

You already juggle enough: WhatsApp, inbox, maybe a mailing tool, maybe a paper list by the phone. Then the chat starts collecting emails and numbers for follow-up — useful! — and the product decides those contacts should also become tags, pipelines, campaigns, "your customer base."

Suddenly you have two lists. Then three. The person who asked for a support callback ends up on a newsletter they never wanted. You spend more time wondering which list is true than actually calling people back.

What we refuse to become

LutinGénie's job is simple: answer customers when you can't, and help you pick up the threads that need a human.

We will not:

  • Replace the customer tool you already use (if you have one)
  • Turn chat into a marketing list machine
  • Ask you to "move all your customers into LutinGénie"

Tools that try to do chat and be your whole CRM usually do both halfway. You deserve sharper than that.

So what happens when someone leaves their details?

They shouldn't vanish — and they shouldn't get pulled into a fake second address book either.

When a visitor leaves an email or phone for follow-up, you can find them in your LutinGénie portal next to that conversation. Same person. Same context. Built for support callbacks — not for running your whole business relationships.

Already using a CRM (for example Brevo)? On higher plans you can optionally send those support contacts over — into your tool. A bridge when you need it. Not a migration. Newsletter opt-ins and marketing consent stay in your marketing tool, not invented by the chat.

The line we'll keep

Chat should make it easier to call people back. It should not invent another place where you're supposed to "manage customers."

We'll update this post when that line gets tested — new connections, new pressure to add campaigns — because this choice is for owners like you, not for building a bigger product checklist.

Answer customers. Keep your tools.

Start free. When follow-ups need a clearer home, upgrade — without inheriting another CRM.
